Road Racing - Results 2016

The Road Race Team have had a great start to the season, with regular top 10s across LVRC and BC supported races.  With notable results of a fine 4th and 7th for Guy Bramley in the highly competitive LVRC series and a few high top 10s at Mallory and Darley Moor for Steve Barrell and Steve Tait.  It is fair to say that the conditions for racing over the past few months have been typical for this time of year, with hail, rain, wind and mud all being battled against, on top of the rising standard across all levels of racing.

The upward trajectory of the results recently was topped off in style with a win in the very popular and competitive East Midlands Development League - Run very well this year by OVB.  Steve Tait and Guy Bramley raced in terrible conditions at the first Lime Kiln event of the year and showed their intentions from the start with Guy Bramley sprinting from the pack in an attempt to force a break for Steve Tait to increase.  Steve was joined by Neil Buckley, an OVB rider and regular on our Bandit rides and the pair attempted to make the break stick.  The conditions worked against them, but it didn’t stop a few more attempts to get away in an aggressive race.  The ultimate winning move was on the final drag to the line with Steve making an early charge up the out side and gave it enough power that the chasing pack could not latch on to his wheel.  He managed to hold off the pack to take a fine win, showing the power that those that have ridden with Steve know he is capable of producing.

As the weather looks to be improving we expect similar results, which will represent the best Road Race results for Mapperley CC for a few years and show the development in this area that the club has been promising.  With a few riders out with injury we are not at full strength, but we have seen new faces tasting the action in the early season with Ewan and Lee making great progress and enjoying the thrills and spills of the local races.  We now have 8 riders active in the local races and hopefully the success will encourage a few more to take the plunge.
